Who is my child’s teacher?
1st grade through 3rd grade students' homeroom teacher will be posted on August 15th at 3:30 in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Please note, for student privacy reasons homeroom lists will not be posted outside of the school building. If you need help with logging into your PowerSchool Parent Portal, please contact the Powers Office at 440-988-8670.
Each Kindergartener's homeroom teacher will be posted on August 22nd at 3:30 in the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
When is Open House?
Open House is a chance to come meet your teachers, see the classroom, bring in school supplies, and take a walk around our school. There will be no formal presentations at Open House. Come at any time during the Open House window. Parents are highly encouraged to bring student school supplies during Open House so that students are not struggling to carry these items into class on the first day of school.
When is the first day of school?
1-3 grades - August 20th
Kindergarten -
If your child’s last name starts with letters A-L – August 26th.
If your child’s last name starts with letters M-Z - August 27th
August 28th will be the first day that all of our Kindergarten students will be together in the classroom.
This staggered start for our kindergarteners allows students to experience a full day and learn routines with a smaller class size.
Kindergarten Orientation
On August 26th and 27th, when your child has their first day of school, we also welcome our Kindergarten parents to come walk in the classroom and join us for a Kindergarten Parent Orientation from 9am to 9:30am in the classroom with teachers and then 9:30 to 10am in the cafeteria with administration and school counselors. This will be a chance to ask some questions, get classroom/teacher specific information, and allows for a transition for your child.
Updates… shared in the Recent district newsletter…
Powers will continue to promote whole child development through our focus on Behavior, Academics, and Social Growth.
THIRD GRADE FOCUSED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS
Select teachers will be team teaching with one teacher focused on Math and Science and a second teacher providing instruction in Literacy and Social Studies. This will allow us to provide focused professional development for teachers in the use of Amplify CKLA and Bridges/Number Corner in Mathematics and will allow teachers to capitalize on their areas of expertise. Our third grade Math/Science teachers will be implementing a new science curriculum this school year, as well: Savvas Ohio Interactive Science. The new science program is aligned to Ohio’s Learning Standards for science, and incorporates the development of literacy skills with hands-on learning opportunities.
POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION SUPPORT (PBIS) INITIATIVE
Students will be celebrated for successes and held accountable to a common set of expectations that we put into child friendly language and refer to as our "Super Powers". Students are asked to have a Calm Body,Use Kind Words, Do the Right Thing at the Right Time, and to treat our Building as our Home. We will continue to have our partner programs like Best Buddies and Big Comets, Little Comets to promote connectedness and empathy between our students. We meet monthly with each grade level to review expectations, celebrate successes, and highlight learning opportunities.
Arrival/Dismissal and PikMyKid
● Drop off is going great so we want to share thanks for everyone showing patience and flexibility. Remember that school starts at 8:50. If you come to drop off a student after 8:50 they will need to be dropped off on the office side and will need a parent to sign them at the office.
● For dismissal, if you are arriving and checking in as a car driver the PIKMYKID app is going to automatically assign each person to lane 1. Please disregard this message. It is an auto generated message. Instead, follow the directions of the staff that are out there.
*PikMyKid codes are assigned to each student and remain the same while at Powers. You will receive your child's PikMyKid code at Open House along with PikMyKid app. download directions.
● Walkers at the end of the day really need to be independently able to cross streets and know where they are going to meet up with parents. If you are picking your child up by car, we ask that you use the PikMyKid car lot rather than using the community streets in the neighborhood. Thanks for your support.
