I want to give everyone an early reminder: There will be No School for students on Friday, September 19. Our faculty and staff will participate in a district-wide safety drill in partnership with local law enforcement and emergency responders.
The training will include a safety simulation that allows our staff and first responders to practice important procedures in the unlikely event of an emergency. While we hope such a situation never occurs, preparation is an important part of keeping our Comets safe.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we work together to prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and staff.
We encourage parents to help share this information with friends, family, and neighbors so that our community is aware and prepared — ensuring everyone knows that September 19 is just a drill. Thank you!
Please enjoy these photos showcasing our Community of Excellence this week — students engaged in learning, building friendships, and growing together!

Senior tennis player Kayla Bussard made Comet history this week at the Lorain County Athletic Administrators Association Tournament!
Heading into Day 1 of play, Kayla held an overall record of 70-27—tied with Steele alumna Natalie Keron Campbell (Class of 2015), who held the program record of 70 wins for the past 10 years. In a full-circle moment, Kayla’s 71st victory came against Natalie’s own Avon Varsity B player. With Natalie courtside coaching, Kayla came out on top 6-2, 6-1.
After the match, Kayla was surprised with a special recognition on Court 1. Coaches and teammates celebrated her new school record of 71 career wins—complete with custom shirts and plenty of cheers.
Congratulations, Kayla—71 and counting!
Day 2 of the LCAAA Tournament continues Saturday at Avon HS. Good luck to Kayla and the rest of the Comets as they chase top finishes and a possible team championship!
