Happy Halloween Comet Nation! |
Today has been a wonderful day of fun and excitement for our students and staff as we celebrated Halloween across the district. It’s always great to see the creativity, laughter, and school spirit that days like this bring!
As you head out for trick-or-treating this evening, I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable night filled with plenty of treats and happy memories.
Please also remember that there will be NO SCHOOL on Tuesday, November 4. Staff will be participating in professional development on that day.
Thank you for your continued support, and have a safe and happy Halloween! Please see a fun recap of this morning's Halloween Parade at Powers Elementary School below.

Powers Right to Read Week |
Right to Read Week has been an exciting celebration of literacy and learning at Powers Elementary! Students have enjoyed a variety of reading activities, from shopping at the Comet Cash Store to pick out books they were eager to read, to welcoming special guest readers throughout the week.
A huge thank-you to our friends at the Amherst Public Library, who visited to read to all Kindergarten classes and generously donated a copy of the book they shared to every student!
Students were also thrilled to have guest readers from across the community—including administrators, parents, grandparents, and more—join in the fun. It’s been a wonderful week filled with stories, smiles, and a shared love of reading!

Dr. James L. Knight Visits Nord School |
This week, our Comets at Walter G. Nord School had the opportunity to hear an inspiring presentation from Dr. James L. Knight. Dr. Knight spoke to students about the importance of leading with humility, heart, and kindness—powerful messages that align perfectly with our district values.
We are so proud of our students for their thoughtful engagement and enthusiastic participation during his visit!
Dr. Knight will continue working with all of our Amherst schools to help students grow as compassionate, confident leaders both in and out of the classroom.
