Steele Strikes Cancer Brings Students and Teachers Together at Powers Elementary

This week, students at Powers Elementary School had a fun and creative opportunity to support an important cause during their lunch periods. Students were able to purchase temporary tattoos and choose which teachers and staff members would wear them around school today.

The activity quickly became a highlight of the week, giving students a chance to interact with their teachers in a unique and fun way. Staff members enthusiastically joined in on the fun, proudly sporting their tattoos throughout the day.

Beyond the excitement, the event helped raise funds for an important cause as part of the Steele Strikes Cancer fundraising efforts to fight blood cancer.

This year, the Steele Strikes Cancer team set a goal of raising $67,000 to support the fight against blood cancer. Next week, Steele Strikes Cancer will head to Amherst Junior High for another fundraiser as the campaign wraps up strong. Community members can still contribute by donating through the link below.

Stay tuned for an exciting update as the team announces the total amount raised!

Marion L. Steele High School recently welcomed the No Hate High School Tour!

Students experienced an exciting presentation featuring top BMX athletes who combined high-energy action sports with meaningful conversations about bullying prevention, kindness, and inclusion.

Through their stories, students heard important messages about overcoming obstacles, being an ally, surrounding themselves with positive influences, and supporting mental health. This peer-to-peer approach helps make these conversations relatable and impactful for teens.

A special thank you to the U.S. Marine Corps for hosting this event and bringing this important program to our students. We appreciate the opportunity for our students to learn these valuable lessons while enjoying an unforgettable experience.

Nutrition Services Supervisor & Steele Senior Attend National Conference in Washington D.C.

The Legislative Action Conference (LAC) will take place March 8–10 in Washington, D.C., where Nutrition Services Supervisor Mrs. Kelbley and Steele senior Shyla Plezia will represent Amherst Schools.

They will attend breakout and general sessions covering current political topics, updates from the USDA, and how the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans may impact school meals. They will also visit Capitol Hill to meet with Congressional and Senatorial representatives and advocate for school nutrition programs.

This marks Mrs. Kelbley’s 14th time attending the conference, and for the first time she will be joined by a student. Shyla becomes the first student to attend alongside her, helping represent the voices of students across the country.

Good luck to Mrs. Kelbley and Shyla as they represent Comet Nation in Washington, D.C.!
