Celebrating Music in our Schools Month

For more than 40 years, March has been recognized as Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®) by the National Association for Music Education. This nationwide celebration highlights the important role music education plays in the lives of students and the value it brings to schools and communities.

We’re proud of the incredible work happening across our district from our elementary music classrooms, where students first discover their love of music, to the outstanding performances by our choir, orchestra, and band students.

A special thank you to our dedicated choir, orchestra, and band directors, as well as our elementary music teachers, whose passion and commitment help our Comets grow as musicians and performers every day!

The Comet Pride Storybook Trail Is Ready for Spring!

Last year, our Comet Pride Walking Trail was transformed into a Storybook Walking Trail, giving families a special place to enjoy a good book while getting fresh air and movement outdoors.

This project wouldn’t be possible without the support of our partners at the Amherst Public Library, who donate the books and supplies, and Mrs. Glatz’s AJH Wellness Class, who help keep the trail fresh by regularly changing out the stories.

With spring right around the corner, the trail has been refreshed and is ready for visitors! Stop by, enjoy the outdoors, get a little movement in, and read a story along the way. It’s a fun way for families to combine reading, wellness, and time outside.

The Comet Pride Storybook Trail is located on the campus of Powers Elementary and Amherst Junior High, accessible off Milan Avenue.

We hope to see you on the trail soon!

Steele Seniors Honored at Ohio Military Signing Day

Four seniors from Marion L. Steele High School were recognized for their commitment to serve our country during the Ohio Military Signing Day hosted by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce on Tuesday, March 10, in Columbus.

The event celebrates Ohio students in grades 11 and 12 who have chosen a path of military service after graduation. Honorees include students who will attend a service academy, have accepted an ROTC scholarship, or have enlisted for active duty, Reserve, or National Guard service.

During the ceremony, each student received a certificate and a special cord to wear at graduation in recognition of their commitment.

Representing Marion L. Steele were four outstanding seniors:

• Hayden Baker-Navy

• Abbey Barry-Army ROTC

• William Fought-Navy

• Cristian Nieves-Navy

We are incredibly proud of these Comets for choosing to serve and for the leadership and dedication they have already demonstrated. Congratulations to all four seniors on this remarkable achievement and thank you for your commitment to our nation!

Nord Students Have a fun Visit to the Cleveland Natural History Museum

Our Nord students recently showed their Comet Impact by being respectful, responsible, and safe during their visit to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History!

The day kicked off with an exciting “Science is Magic” presentation, followed by plenty of hands-on learning and exploration throughout the museum.

A big thank you to our teachers, chaperones, and bus drivers for helping make this trip possible and ensuring our Comets had a fun, memorable, and safe experience. We’re proud of how well our students represented Comet Nation!
