This week, our Powers Best Buddies brought the Olympic spirit to school with a day full of fun and friendly competition! Students tested their figure skating skills using carpet skates, carefully crossed the balance beam, soared in the long jump, and showed off their hockey moves.

They also gave curling and rowing a try, learning new techniques and cheering each other on every step of the way.

Most importantly, the day was filled with teamwork, laughter, and opportunities to build new skills together. What a great way to celebrate friendship and fun! 

Our AJH Comets recently competed in the Unified Special Olympics Basketball Tournament at Avon Middle School, and what a great day it was! Their Best Buddies joined them for the event as they faced off against Avon, New Story, Strongsville, and Elyria.

In addition to playing some fantastic basketball, students shared lunch together before heading back to school, making it a day filled with teamwork, friendship, and fun. We are so proud of our Comets!

We are grateful for our continued partnership with Path & Green as they work to support students across Lorain County.

Last week, Walter G. Nord Middle School received 300 hygiene kits for our fifth-grade students as part of Path & Green’s countywide initiative to distribute 3,800 kits by the end of the school year. This marks our second year partnering with the organization, and we are proud to be part of a program that ensures every student feels prepared and supported.

The kits will be distributed to all fifth graders after they complete their puberty curriculum. By providing the kits to every student, the experience remains inclusive and helps ease some of the natural awkwardness that can come with these important conversations. 

We are thankful to Path & Green for helping our students feel prepared, confident, and supported.

Blood Cancer United is shining a spotlight on student leaders through its Student Visionaries of the Year program — a nationwide philanthropic leadership initiative for high school students.

At Steele, a dedicated team of students is making a meaningful impact in the fight against blood cancers. Through their campaign, Steele Strikes Cancer, these Student Visionaries are developing real-world professional and leadership skills while raising critical funds for research, patient support, and advocacy efforts.

As they compete for the title of Student Visionaries of the Year, they are not only raising awareness and funds, but also inspiring the entire Amherst community. To support their efforts, please consider making an online donation by March 13!
