Mrs. Costello’s students have been hard at work bringing their Coffee Cart Project to life...and what an incredible job they did! From start to finish, students helped create a plan, design a Google Form for staff orders, and prepare delicious homemade treats including muffins, cookies, cake pops, brownies, and rice krispie treats. They even served coffee and hot chocolate to staff members! The students proudly created a name for their coffee cart and designed and decorated their own sign to make it official.
Beyond the sweet treats, this project provided meaningful, real-world learning experiences. Students practiced communication, followed multi-step directions, built social skills, and developed greater independence while gaining confidence and learning responsibility. Most importantly, they were able to contribute in a positive and impactful way to our school community. We are so proud of their hard work and teamwork! |
Powers Students Inspired by Their Own Teacher-Author, Mrs. Holbert |
Second graders at Powers Elementary School recently enjoyed a special Wellness class experience. Mrs. Holbert, Wellness teacher, read aloud from her children’s book, When My Feelings Felt Too Big, which she wrote and published herself.
The book supports social-emotional learning by helping students understand big feelings and practice simple coping strategies and skills that they regularly work on in Wellness class. Students were excited and engaged, and it was especially meaningful to hear a story written by their own teacher. We are proud to celebrate Mrs. Holbert’s creativity and her dedication to supporting our students’ emotional growth. |

This year marks a special milestone as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Distinguished Alumni Gallery of Success, established in 1986. In honor of this occasion, we are excited to introduce a new category: Distinguished Faculty.
To be eligible for nomination in the Distinguished Faculty category, individuals must be retired and have taught in the Amherst Schools. Faculty members who previously taught in Amherst and later retired from another district are also eligible. As always, the only requirement for Distinguished Alumni nominees is that they must have graduated from Amherst Exempted Village Schools.
We invite you to help us recognize the outstanding alumni and educators who have made a lasting impact on our schools and community. Digital nomination forms are available below! |
